Grammar Nazi

Grammar Nazi

English expression indicating a defender of Grammar.

A Grammar Nazi is the guardian of grammar, a new unprofessional figure who does not forgive even the smallest spelling typo or grammatical or syntactic oversight and has the courage to highlight mistakes made during a conversation or in a published or posted written text, even in a marked critical manner.

If a typo is human, when is it right to forgive an oversight and when to consider that error is indicative of not having mastered a skill?
“What would be the effect on us if a doctor wrote “pathology “with two” g’s”?
A spontaneous reaction, says the linguist Serianni, would be to ask ourselves: but if he can’t even write the word correctly then what does he actually know about pathology?
The important thing is to be able to distinguish when it is appropriate to report the error and when it would be better to let yourself be caught up in the story that the error is narrating.
